Examples of common positional mistakes - Uneven weight in stirrups

  • If your weight is uneven on your horse you will prevent it from being able to move in a rhythm

  • It will probably cause the saddle to slip to one side which may cause pain in the horse’s back

  • It may prevent even muscle development and top line on the horse.

  • As a rider you will collapse to one side

  • If this is done for a long period of time your muscles will develop unevenly and you may become lopsided in your posture

  • You should sit tall in the centre of the saddle, keep your weight even in your stirrups and relax through your shoulders.

  • There should be an invisible line from your shoulders through to your hips and heels.
