When I first start trotting I like them to trot in their natural gait.

Depending on how young, balanced, experienced they are will depend how much the horse is willing to take the contact forward.

I work like this so they can warm up and it gives me a chance to assess where they are on that day.

When stretching at the end of your training session they should be more balanced from the work you have done.

This young horse was going through a growth spurt when filming so is not as balanced as I would have liked It will be very different in a few weeks.

In the working trot establish a rhythm, and keep the hind legs active.

The hind legs should match the imprint of the front hooves.

The rider should sit tall, keep your legs on and weight equal in both stirrups.

When working in trot remember to use a variety of movements.
