Scales of Training - Collection in canter


The last component in the scales of training.

It is a controlled forward rhythmical movement with elevation.

Although this is generally for more advanced work it is important to understand the full set of scales of training.

It can be included in your work to different degrees depending where you are at.

When you first start working on this do a few steps in collection, then more working canter then back again.

Repeat this throughout your session and build over the weeks, months and years as your horse’s strength develops.

In this video I demonstrate collection 3 times.

Each time I increased the number of strides.

To achieve this ride the hind legs under the horse, use your core and sit tall and have even weight in your stirrups.

Use squares to ride around rather than a continual circle

it will help to engage the hind legs as you collect around the turns.
