Scales of training - How to create impulsion
This is fourth in the scales of training and is only possible if the first three scales are in place.
Impulsion is the controlled energy that propels the horse forward from the hindquarters, through his core and into forward motion and movement.
The horse has to be strong enough to carry the power created through his core, without loss of balance or increasing his speed.
Therefore you should only ask the horse for the amount of impulsion that he is able to carry at any point in his development.
This will not happen if the horse is resisting and is tense or inverted.
The horse must be supple and connected in order to achieve impulsion.
As the impulsion develops and the horse gets stronger so their athleticism will increase and so will their elevation.
